UnderWaterland at Casa Lü Residency CDMX (2023)

Work and concept in progress.
UnderWaterland (worktitle) explores life of an aquatic creature at various wetlands, unique in its own kind and usually with the sensory perception and -experience from under water.

During the residency at Casa Lü in Mexico-City in 2023 Ros will continue with the development of her project UnderWaterland. For this project she explores life of an aquatic creature, unique in its own kind and usually with the sensory perception and -experience from under water. UnderWaterland mainly focuses on the axolotl, the concept of metamorphosis and on Lisette Ros herself as an aquatic creature: conditioned to live on the land, but at the same time always trying to connect- and empathize with life under water – facing serious threats.

This project is an attempt to better understand the influences of climate change in the field of wetlands, translated into researching the axolotls as a representation of this dramatic radical change. The Monstruo de Agua has been an important symbol of Mexican culture for centuries and is in danger for extinction, mainly because of habitat loss.

Below, some first experimental edits of footage recorded as Artist in Resident in Iceland (2022).
Also included are recordings of the live stream intervention by Lisette Ros from the Sky Lagoon, IS to Sauna Deco, NL, as part of the first edition of the Sunday Evening Artsy Bath on May 22nd.
